The Velos Youth Centre CEO, Mustafa, is/was a Syrian refugee and he has given his permission to share his story because I know not all of you have read Dana’s book yet. In the book All Else Failed: The Unlikely Volunteers at the Heart of the Migrant Aid Crisis, his journey from becoming an educated, young naval officer with a promising future to fleeing conscription, to being wrongfully arrested by the Greeks on a boat full of fellow refugees, to eventually gaining asylum, Mustafa’s story is one of perseverance and hope. He is an incredibly positive person and a model for the organization.
The Velos website provides bios of the staff, yet we have come to know them as so much more. They are caring, hard-working people uniting to provide the support these young people need. We’ll add more photosof them as we go.
