The terrace was a main area for renewal. It's a gathering place for meetings, social interactions, and reflection. The seating needed to be upgraded to accommodate more people more comfortably. When we arrived, the view on both sides was unpleasant- an abandoned, derelict, neighboring terrace on the west, and a rotting air conditioning cover on the other.
From day one, Marc built relationships with the young people through revitalizing this cherished space. In addition to the benches that Marc and many young people helped build, they installed a lattice screen to block the neighbors and then tackled the east side. Replaced the top with strong plywood and built lattice blinds on hinges. The we used my new tile skills to tile the new to so it is weather-proof and handy.
